WCK's Myanmar Earthquake Response (Mar. 2025)

In late March, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Southeast Asia, centering on Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar. The temblor occurred at a shallow six miles causing massive, widespread destruction to buildings, infrastructure, and communities. The earthquake tragically claimed the lives of over 3,600 people. With many homes severely damaged, families have been isolated and left cut off from access to fresh food, clean water, and other vital resources. WCK’s Relief Team is serving thousands of meals daily in Myanmar, utilizing four modalities as part of our relief strategy: 1) hot meals through local restaurants, 2) family dry food kits, 3) Ready-to-Eat kits, and 4) bulk kits for community kitchens—in addition to providing water due to the significant scarcity. In total, WCK served nearly 6 million meals in Myanmar.

WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency of now to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to communities impacted by disasters quickly and effectively. We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.
